| Abandoned |
| Abandoned was created
to provide a single site dedicated to all the various
animal rescue and welfare organisations. This ingenious
innovation increases awareness and helps with the ever-increasing
need to find homes for rescued animals in South Africa.
Their site also contains fundraising events, up-to-date
news, as well as an animal-orientated forum. For more
information, visit www.abandoned.co.za. |

Cat Assistance
Team, CAT
|
Not so long ago Rita Brock and Mandy Wilson were alerted
to overcrowding at Pollsmoor Prison, but it wasn’t
about prisoners this time – it was the overcrowding
of cats. Heads were put together, and the Cat Assistance
Team (CAT) was born. CAT has been working under the
auspices of TEARS, and has since trapped and sterilised
about 100 feral cats in the prison - converting prisoners
and warders into cat lovers as they find comfort and
companionship with their new feline friends. These cats
and kittens have clawed their way into the hearts of
inmates, helping them rediscover how to play and teaching
them about compassion and purrfect love. |

Cat Lovers
Association of South Africa, CLASA
|
| In November 1998,
a number of cat lovers got together to start a cat club
more democratic than the major clubs and where the domestic
cat was treated with the same respect as a pedigree. It
was unanimous that the club’s name would be Cat
Lovers Association of South Africa (CLASA) and a year
later TEARS was adopted as CLASA’s designated charity.
CLASA holds exhibitions at shopping malls where the
public can view the cats at no charge. TEARS is always
invited, which gives us an opportunity to exhibit a
number of our shelter felines available for adoption.
Many homes have been found for our rescued felines at
CLASA exhibitions.

International
Fund for Animal Welfare, IFAW
|
| The International Fund for
Animal Welfare, IFAW, is a courageous, hands-on international
animal welfare organisation, offering support and financial
aid to many animal orientated societies across the globe.
IFAW’s pragmatic approaches to diverse animal- and
environmental-orientated issues, has established itself
as one of the most important animal welfare organisations
in the world. IFAW has been a proud supporter of TEARS
since 2002. Thorough their Community-Led Animal Welfare
(CLAW) programme, IFAW has enabled us to provide free
primary health care such as vaccination, de-worming, dipping
and sterilisation to the disadvantaged animals of the
impoverished communities we serve. To find out more about
IFAW, visit their website, www.ifaw.org. |
